It's almost Birthday Time!

Brayden is so excited! Tomorrow is his birthday, and he is going to be 4. I don't know how excited he is about being four....here is a clip of the conversation we had this morning on the way to school.

Brayden: "Mom, Is is May 18?"
Mom: "Not yet, Today is May 17th, tomorrow is May 18th."
Brayden: "My birthday is May 18."
Mom: "I know, how exciting! How old are you going to be on your birthday?"
Brayden: "May 18."
Mom: "No, how OLD are you going to be."
Brayden: "Four...but I think I want to be five. I might want to be two, but I think I've already been that number."
Mom: laughing hysterically "That's right, you have already been two. But we have to go in order, 1-2-3-4-5..."

So exactly how do you explain that we can't just skip from 3 to 5? And, how do you explain that your birthday is on Thursday, but we are not having your party until Saturday to a soon-to-be 4 year old?
We are busy planning the birthday party now. It is Saturday at our house, and it is going to be tons of fun. I am really looking forward to it. I know Brayden will be excited and surprised (since Scott and I have something really cool planned). It gives me so much joy when I see how happy he is.

For some reason, this year as Brayden's birthday approaches, I have been playing the "On this day 4 years ago Game." I thought I would share some of my thoughts.

On this day 4 years ago...
I couldn't find my ankles. They apparently went on vacation and left me with a pair of elephant ankles on loan.
I had spent one long night at the hospital with Dawn and Scott complaining about how tired THEY were.
Today, I was sleeping soundly under the spell of Benadryl and Tylenol, which is what they sent me home from the hospital with.
I packed up all my stuff for the hospital because I knew there was no way I was keeping that kid in my belly until June 5 (his original due date). In fact, I wasn't all that interested in playing the contraction-stop breathing/talking/moving game anymore.
Dawn and I walked 150 flights of stairs...until they started swaying in the breeze and she made me go back into the house.
We ordered pizza for dinner.
Scott, after having been up all night at the hospital, went to work and worked all day. He prompty came to the apartment after work and did what he does best - slept.
Dawn and I went to Wal-Mart to buy a themometer - because in my frenzy of worry that I was about to have a baby, I realized I didn't have a themometer...and I couldn't bring a child into this world without owning a themometer.
And...on this day, four years ago, I was the old-Carla for the very last time. I had no idea how much my life was about to change, and remain changed forever...and I can't imagine my life now, without my precious Brayden in it.
