Who makes dreams come true?

This morning, on the way to Nan and Pap's house, Brayden and I saw a guy walking toward the university with his backpack on. I said, "I hope he doesn't think there is school today." Brayden replied, "They go to school there today, Mom." Here's the rest:

Mom: "No, there is no school today because it is a holiday, Martin Luther King Jr Day. Do you know who Martin Luther King Jr was?"

Brayden: "A peacemaker."

Mom: "I like that answer. Good job! You always amaze me with how smart you are. Do you know what his famous speech was?"

Brayden: thinking....scrunching up face...thinking...."My teacher told us but I can't remember."

Mom: "I have a..."

Brayden: "dream!" He paused here as if he was reflecting on what we were talking about. "Mom, who makes dreams come true?"

I must admit, the first thing that popped into my head was Walt Disney (I have no idea why), but I thought it best not to say that out loud. :-) Instead, I said, "We all make dreams come true in some way."

Brayden was not quite beliving what I was saying. "I'm talking about real dreams, Mom. (insert clearly annoyed with how potentially stupid you are tone here.) Not the dreams you have when you are asleep and there are monsters and stuff."

Mom: (swallowing hard because I know where I'm headed with this and I want to get it out right the first time) "When I was younger, I used to dream about being a Mommy. You made that dream come true for me, Brayden."

Brayden wouldn't look at me, thank goodness because I had tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. I looked over at him, and he was a little teary eyed too, and very quiet. He knew I was telling the truth: He made dreams come true.

It was probably the first time I realized how many of our dreams do come true without us really noticing. Not that I didn't notice Brayden....if you know Brayden you know he is....well...um....noticable. :-) He has made dreams come true for me....as has Brody, and Scott. These boys are my fairy tale.

And even Walt Disney can't top that.
