Half-Marathon Runner!

Saturday, September 25th, Brayden ran in his first ever half-marathon! The Itty-Bitty Bites Bluegrass Half Marathon was done for the kids in conjunction with the adult Bluegrass Half-Marathon on Sunday. For the six weeks leading up to the event, the kids ran two miles a week. Brayden completed his at school - with some extra running in the evenings with Dad. On Saturday, the runners completed the last mile. Below: Brayden and Brody at the Start/Finish line.

Check out his running legs! Holy cow! You can see that he is looking at his hand. He said he fell at the beginning of the race because it was so crowded. He was checking his injuries.

This is the end of the mile - he is getting ready to cross the finish line. Brayden finished pretty quickly - he ran the entire mile. By Mom's un-biased guestimate, I believe he finished in the top 25% of the kids. This was an untimed, non-competitive race. The point was simply to get the kids moving and running.

Each kid that crossed the finish line got a medal. Brayden is sporting his below! I'm holding the sign I had along the sideline cheering him on - because I think he totally rocks!

I am so proud of Brayden! I think he is loving it! He is signed up to run the Susan G Komen Kids Mile in October and the Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning. More to come!

Wow, that's fantastic. I mean, really, truly fantastic. Good job, Brayden. I wish I could run a half-marathon...but I think my long(er) distance running days are over. Maybe a 5K again sometime ;).
