Barbiheimer Weekend

This past weekend, Scott and I hit the movie theater in a big way.  Scott has been looking forward to the movie, Oppenheimer, for months.  I've been looking forward to the Barbie movie.  Lucky for us, they opened on the same weekend, so we went to the movies twice in the same weekend!

On Friday, we saw Oppenheimer.  It was a very good movie.  Scott loved it.  It was very long (3 hours).  Oppenheimer tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the lead physicist on the Manhattan project for development of the first atomic bomb.  This movie taught me about the history of the atomic bomb and the development of nuclear weapons.  It made me realize Einstein wasn't near as old as I thought.

On Saturday, we saw Barbie.  I loved it so much.  It's been 4 days and I'm still thinking about it.  Scott liked it, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he loved it.  He was such a good sport - not only did he agree to go with me to Barbie, but he agreed to my insistence that we wear pink.  I laughed and I cried.  It was beautiful and refreshing.  I felt seen as a mother, a woman, a woman with a career, and a daughter.   It was a poignant and complex look at finding your own self-worth and identity.  I spent my childhood playing with Barbie dolls, but it took seeing the Barbie movie as an adult to realize the profound impact Barbie had on my life.  This time, Barbie arrived in my life as I prepare to begin a new chapter.  I am committed to remembering the influence of this film: self-confidence, positivity, independence, and interdependence.  I'm currently plotting how I can go see it again.  I'm pretty sure I can't talk my Ken into going again.  😉

It was such a fun weekend.  I am so grateful for our adventures together.  It was the BEST DAY EVER.  💖
