Race for the Cure

On Sunday, October 24, the Orsburn's (sans Brody) participated in the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure. What an amazing experience...the support for the cause was stunning. There were families of breast cancer victims and survivors; there were survivors; there were folks honoring someone going through the fight currently. It was such an experience to be among these people. All along the route, there were people cheering...local cheerleaders, people gathered on corners, people watching and cheering from their porch. Somewhere during the third mile, there was a group of drummers and they were amazing. There were people that stopped there just to watch. Also during the third mile (I think), there was a pretty moving scene. On the road, "Survivor" was written in chalk with an arrow pointing to the right. I looked over and saw a lady sitting on her porch cheering for the runners going by. It honestly pushed me to keep charging forward.

Brayden did the Dash for the Cure 1 mile run. Let me tell you....this kid rocks!

He is crossing the finish line and if you look to the top, you can see his time. Yes, that says 10:05. He is 8. Like I said, he totally rocks! As usual, as he crossed the finish line I had big tears in my eyes and could barely breathe. He makes me so proud. :-)

Scott and I ran the 5K. It was hot. The end of October and it was 81 degrees. I'm totally spoiled - I usually run in the morning after dropping Brayden off at school. It is usually somewhere in the upper 50's to low 60's. To say the least, 81 degrees and I did not get along. I finished in 35:01. Scott was a different story. The picture below tells the story. (That is Scott right in the middle in the gray shirt and black shorts.) His time is shown in the top of the picture.

Yes, it says 23:56. Holy cow. He totally rocks too. Brayden must get it from his Dad. :-) I would have gotten all choked up over Scott too, but I was somewhere in the middle of mile 2 wondering if it could get any hotter as he was crossing the finish line. :-)

Above are the runners. This was between Brayden's race and our race. Many thanks to Nan for coming out and playing photographer and keeping an eye on Brayden while Scott and I ran. She pretty much rocks too! :-)
