Sugar Mountain 2011

The entire Orsburn family made our way to Sugar Mountain last weekend for some ski and snowboarding action. It was girls ski and boys snowboard....or rather, Carla skis and her boys snowboard. :-)

This was Brody's first outing to the ski slopes. I have to say, he did awesome! I think everyone on the bunny slope asked how old he was and then told either Scott or I how great he was doing. Love. that. He was simply too cute for words.

You should know, skis and snowboards do not mix. It was incredibly difficult for me to help Brody in my skis. Scott actually broke a binding on his snowboard while we were on the mountain, which left me to ski with Brody. We managed, but his experience was slowed down quite a bit.

I wish I had a decent picture of Brayden from our trip. He was either moving too fast or too far away to get a good picture. He was there, I promise.
Funny Brayden story: We went up the lift a little higher on the mountain than the bunny slope. Scott and Brody were together (pre-bummed binding). Brayden and I were together. We got split up. Brayden, who has little or no fear on the ski slope, went skidding right off the slope into a thicket of trees. Um. Yea. Remember the part about difficult with me on skis? Attempting to pull Brayden from the soft, fluffy, undisturbed-until-now snow was simply not happening. Thankfully, one of the ski patrol guys came to the rescue. He hopped right down in there (with his skis on!) and plucked Brayden from the trees. When Brayden got back on the slope, he went all the way to the other side to get himself back together. It is always an adventure.

Speaking of adventure, I have to admit, our trip didn't get off to the best start. I was threatening to hit the bar in the lodge before I ever set foot on the slopes. This is probably a testament to how very needy my children can be...first, it was Brayden's gloves - they didn't feel right. Then it was Brody's boots hurting his feet. We took some part out of his boots, which was supposed to make them bigger. He was temporarily satisfied. We switched up Brayden's gloves. He didn't like pair of gloves #2. We went back to pair of gloves #1, which were now miraculously acceptable. By this time, Brody has started complaining about his boots again. We started toward the ticket booth. Brody's complaining got louder and more frequent. Scott purchased our lift tickets, but of course, we couldn't get Brody's ticket from that window. No, sir. Brody and I had to go inside to get his ticket from the information booth. Really? Once Brody and I were inside the building, he simply refused to walk...or stand for that matter. Picture it - Mom all suited up to go play in the snow on the side of a mountain (wearing layers of clothing) carrying my 40 pound child who is also dressed to go play in the snow. I seriously thought I was going to m.e.l.t. inside my clothes. At this point, I was desperate. We went to the rental booth, where we stood in line behind 4 teenagers who couldn't seem to get their act together. When we finally got to the front, I ordered and paid to rent boots for Brody. But NO...we have to go to another window to pick them up....behind the drama-filled-teenagers. (Here is the part where I'm ready for the bar.) I finally got Brody's boots, we changed him and he practically sprinted back out to the slopes. Yes, folks, I believe his boots were too small. Long story, huh? But simply too funny not to share. Scott and I learned some valuable lessons from our first ski trip with two children...namely: leave the two children at home. :-) Just kidding! Like I said, it is always and adventure with us. Always.
