The USSSA October Classic

We arrived in Kingsport from NYC at 11:30am.  Scott and I ran home, changed clothes, and drove to Kingsport for Brayden's first-ever travel baseball tournament.  His first game started at 12:45, so as you can imagine, we didn't have a moment to spare.

Brayden is playing for Diamond Elite 13U out of Bristol.  The team has had a sort-of difficult start.  They got started late and initially didn't have enough players.  Then came the rains....rain interfered with more than one practice.  Most of the fall tournaments were already complete by the time they were ready to play in a tournament.  The coach signed the team up to play in the October classic.  The tournament was supposed to start on Saturday, but it rained so the games got moved to Sunday.  This was a bittersweet thing for Scott and I, since we were already exhausted from our trip, but we were both excited we didn't miss Brayden's tournament.

The October Classic, held at Domtar Park in Kingsport.  Brayden played in the outfield.  They won their first game.  This was awesome, since this was also the first game they had ever played as a team.

They ended up losing their second game.  I really have no idea how travel ball tournaments work, but that day I learned there were two brackets.  Brayden's team went to the silver bracket, since they went 1-1 in the preliminary games.

They played one more game in the tournament.  They won their final tournament game, which awarded them 1st place in the silver bracket.  I still have no idea how it works, but Brayden's team won.  It was fun and that's how it is supposed to work.

The prize was a pink miniature bat for each player.  Here is Brayden accepting his.  :)
