February Snow and Sledding

Last week, the boys were out of school on Monday.  It was a built in snow day.  Since they haven't used any snow days, they had the day out of school.  Turns out the day held a snow storm for us after all.  It snowed Monday evening into Tuesday.  The kids ended up being out of school for the entire week.  We've experienced every type of winter weather over the last week.  The temperatures were very very cold (single digits), wind chills were negative degrees, snow, sleet, freezing rain, regular rain...even though we've only had one week of winter temperatures and winter weather, we've squeezed in a lot over that week.

I seriously just wrote an entire paragraph about the weather.  The blog may have reached a new low.

I really came here to post the pictures from our sledding adventures.  We headed out on Tuesday afternoon for some sledding at a church perched on a hill close to our house.  This was a new discovery for us.  We will go there again the next time we get snow.  It was a great hill for sledding.

Being a spectator is a cold job!

The boys tried to build a jump by piling up snow, but it didn't exactly work the way they planned.

This was the first of several sledding trips last week.  Uncle Keith lives in a subdivision full of hills.  Since Keith is a big kid himself, he build this elaborate sledding 'run' for the kids.  It ran through 2 yards, across the street, and into a 3rd yard.  It was complete with a few curves and a small jump in the middle.  My kids were in heaven!  Keith takes amazing pictures too - so his are extra fun to share.

Even Pap got in on the action!

As you can see, they visited Keith's multiple times and got to experience both day and night sledding.  They also went down in groups of 2, 3, and 4...sometimes 5 if they could fit everyone.  They were a creative bunch.  It was a lot of fun.  Cold, but fun!
