I have developed blogging goals for this new year. I have been successful so far, so that may mean I occasionally have random blog posts in order to maintain my success. We *are* very interesting folks and always doing something amazing...right? :) I guess that means there will always be something fun to write about, or not. Either way.
Over the weekend, the winter indoor soccer season began. We are so excited Brayden is playing this session. He hasn't played soccer since he was about 4, so we are excited to see how he does. Scott and I were both proud of his play Friday night. He played for part of the first half. Brayden didn't score, but at halftime, his team was ahead 3-1. In the second half, we witnessed the most traumatic event I have ever witnessed at a youth sporting event. At the beginning of the second half, one of the kids on the other team went down. In a few short minutes, CPR was being performed on this child. EMS arrived. He was defibrillated. His mom and dad were on the field with him and I can still hear his Mom screaming his name. It was like the fans were all frozen in disbelief. We were told the kids would not be resuming the game, so we got up to gather kids and head to the car. We sped up considerably when we were told to move our vehicles so the helicopter could land in the parking lot. The ride home was uncomfortable. I had no idea what to say to the boys. Brody had already remarked to my Mom, "This is the scariest soccer game I've ever seen." Brayden was very quiet in the car. It was dark and I couldn't tell what he was feeling. I tried to talk it out, but everything I said seemed to be wrong. Finally, I told him to pray for that little boy and to pray for his parents because I was sure they were very scared. Brayden and I talked again after we got home. He talked about the game and seemed to be ok. I had a hard time going to sleep and an even harder time staying asleep. At 5:15am, I was wide awake. I checked my email and thankfully, we had an email from Brayden's coach's wife with an update. The boy was in the hospital in stable condition. I silently thanked God. I still have no idea if we handled it the right way - or if there was a right way to handle it...I sincerely hope we never have to witness anything like that again.
On Saturday, we went back to the soccer facility for Brody's game. It was weird going in, but after a few minutes, the weirdness was gone and things seemed back to normal. Brody's team played the Strikers for the third weekend in a row. Last weekend was intense, so we expected this weekend to be similar. It was clear at halftime these were not the same Strikers we played last weekend. Brody's team ended up winning 9-0. Brody scored 5 goals. He is our little soccer star! :) It is so much fun to watch.
Not much else to report from the weekend. Scott is training for the Myrtle Beach Marathon on February 14, so he ran today. Brayden is preparing for the school baseball team tryouts, so he and Scott spent a couple of hours at the baseball field practicing today. He starts workouts at school tomorrow.
I will leave you with a picture of Brody playing soccer. This was from a few weeks ago. It is hard to see, but Brody is the first player in orange from the left side...with his leg completing the kick...that is the ball in the net. :) Love that little soccer player of mine.
I will try to get some pictures of Brayden to share at his game on Friday. Stay tuned!
