Today was such a fun day! We headed to Knoxville early for the UT Mens Basketball game. It took some convincing for the boys to go (read: they did not want to get up and get dressed OR leave for the entire day and miss out on playing with friends). Once we got settled in on our journey, they had fun.
The game was lots of fun. It was UT v Auburn and it was a close game. The lead swapped back and forth the entire game. As you can see, our seats were pretty high up, but it didn't matter to us!
While we are a rather sporty family, we know nothing about basketball. Well...almost nothing. Shoot + basket = score...sometimes two points, sometimes three. No being mean or you get a foul. One of the Auburn players must have been exceptionally mean, because he was called for something intentional and ejected from the game! UT won, so it was a good day for us. We like winning. :)
There was some celebrity excitement. The visiting team, Auburn, just happens to be coached by Bruce Pearl - the former UT Mens Basketball Coach. He was fired after some NCAA rule-breaking drama. The Vols love him though and he got a pretty big cheer from the crowd when he was introduced at the beginning of the game.
Coach Butch Jones (current Vol football coach) also made an appearance. He came out of one of the tunnels during the first half and jumped smack into the middle of the student section. They went wild, as you would assume. It was fun to watch from our nosebleed seats.
Coach Phillip Fulmer (former Vol football coach) was also at the game and got some big applause from the crowd.
I'm not sure why they failed to announce the Orsburn family was present today, but it was probably best we stayed incognito. :)
After the game, we went to dinner. We came back by campus to show the boys Neyland Stadium. They haven't been to a UT football game, but we are going to have to try to go to one this year after our basketball adventures today. While we were on our way back through campus, we saw Josh Dobbs, current UT quarterback, walking toward the dorms. The boys were so excited. They went on and on about it long after we had left Josh Dobbs behind.
All in all, it was a fun day. Tomorrow is Superbowl Sunday, so we are gearing up for some football. We are a house divided. I think I am the only one pulling for the Patriots. The Orsburn boys are pulling for Seattle. We shall see... :)
