Four Month Check Up

Today was Brody's 4 month check up at the pediatrician's office.

His stats: Weight - 15 lbs, 2 oz (50% percentile)
Length - 25.25 inches (50% percentile)
Head - 46 cm (off the chart, see below)

He performed properly for the doctor, flashing him with a big open-mouthed grin, demonstrating his new vocal talent, and rolling over! I filled out the developmental screening questionnaire...and the MD told me he was above average for his age group. (I'm sure they tell that to all who walk through the door with insurance! Just kidding!) He had 4 more shots, which seemed to be relatively painless for him (thank you Emla cream!). The featured picture today shows those little bandaids that the big mean nurse put on him (hee hee) - evidence he really did have shots.

The doctor seemed a little concerned about Brody's head size. Let's review - He was in the 50th percentile at his first appt when they measured his head. At his 2 month check up, he was in the 90th percentile. Now his head has grown to a size above the 100th percentile. He was a little concerned about what he called the exponential growth of Brody's head. We are going to check it again at 6 months. If he is still growing at that rate, we will investigate further then. He does not seem to be showing any signs or symptoms you might think of being associated with head problems. I think it just further supports my theory that I give birth to babies with big heads. Gotta have somewhere to put their enormous brains, right?

Last, but certainly not least, we have been given the green light to start feeding Brody something other than the Mommy special. (Only those of you with small children understand the needing-permission-from-the-doctor-to-feed-your-child thing.) Yes, this makes Mommy a tiny bit sad, but at the same time, I know Brody will be excited. Recently he has taken quite the interest in other people eating, and their food. He likes to be perched in a lap at the dinner table, and reaches to grab at plates. I'm sure if he could find the words, he would be saying, "Ok, Mom, feed me already." So, here we go....starting another adventure.
