The second day is....well....different. Today it was Mom and Brody taking Brayden to school. When we were leaving our neighborhood, Brayden saw the bus picking up kids at the bus stop. From that moment on, Brayden began begging to ride the bus. I told him we would have to talk to Daddy about that....I figured that would at least buy me some time. I simply cannot imagine putting my 5 year old on a bus all by himself. I am reminded of the story of my Aunt, Robin....her oldest son wanted to ride the bus, so she let him. She also promptly got in her car and followed the bus to school. :-) Yep, people, that's gonna be me....if I make it to the point I can actually let him get on the bus.
We picked him up at 11:30 since it was again a half day. Immediately upon entering the car, Brayden announces he does not want me to pack his lunch anymore....he wants to get a tray. What? Is he kidding me? School lunch? Unless their menu is rotating PB & J and chicken tenders, he's not going to eat it.
I'm sure I'm all wrong about this. He'll ride the bus and arrive safely....he'll eat school lunch and be perfectly satisfied. It just seems like we're running through these decisions very quickly. I wonder what Day 3 is going to bring. Honestly, I'm a bit scared.
The good news: This year, the school system has implemented a dress code for all students. This dress code includes a belt. (If your shorts/pants have loops, you've gotta have a belt.) Brayden has been wearing his (see picture, I think he looks quite handsome.) He told me today they called all the parents of the kids who didn't have on a belt. Seems a little drastic to me, but there was also a note in his daily folder about this same subject. I said, "Good thing you had your belt on!" He replied, "You're awesome, Mom." Finally! If I didn't do anything else right today, I put my kid in a belt so they didn't have to call his parents. :-)
