Do not disturb...

Yesterday I had to work. On the days I work I leave the house no later than 6:30 AM and return somewhere in the neighborhood of 8:30 pm. My adorable children are usually in bed by the time I arrive home...and only one is awake when I leave. I saw Brody awake for approximately 10 minutes before I left yesterday. I never saw Brayden awake.
SO....I usually call Brayden a couple of times during the day - once in the morning before he leaves for school, and once in the afternoon when he gets home. I made my routine calls yesterday. Our afternoon conversation went something like this...
Mom: "How was school?"
Brayden: "Great." (He almost always says "Great.")
Mom: "Did you have PE today?"
Brayden: "No," offering no further explanation.
Mom: "What did you have today?"
Brayden: "Mom, I'm trying to work on my letters and I don't really want to be disturbed right now."
Mom: "OK, buddy." This is the point where I am trying to decide if this is really funny, or if I am sad he doesn't want to talk to me. Everyone I was working with thought it was hilarious.
He's such a little funny man. On the road to academia, I tell you....working hard to be the smartest kid you've ever seen. :-)
